I was watching Sherlock Holmes last week, and apart from enjoying the movie, it made me realise how different (in a negative way) London has progressed. In the past, we all looked up to the Londoners and thought of them as being the elite of Europe, high tea, brass fixtures, top hats and elegant cloths. English was English with adjectives describing feelings and events that gave you the sensation of royalty. But if anyone has been there recently, well, you will surely notice the difference. You hear a thousand languages in a hundred meters, shop names in Arabic, Indian or Chinese, Dress code.... ?
Why is this happening? One expects to see Italians and experience Italian food in Italy, the Germans are German in Germany and the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain but in London.. You can experience the whole world apart from London. When I asked for good traditional food, I was directed to an Indian restaurant. Had I wanted to taste traditional Indian cuisine, I would have gone to India not London. It is acceptable to have a multinational city in the USA but in London, with its historic buildings and endless tales, one would expect to be taken back in time and feel the trills and enjoy its culture.
So let me describe London.. London is an extensive shopping mall where the sales men (ohh! I meant sales persons) can speak your language and the product is entirely made in "THE REST OF THE WORLD" and I know why the UK government was so eager to have a multinational country, and why they insisted on English being the national EU language. In a few years the English language will change so much that it will include all the other languages in the world. So it will surely be 'spoken by all'.
This is my opinion
