Do you know that there are seven kinds of sea turtles found in the world? Two kinds are found in the seas around Pakistan. They are "Olive Ridley" and "Green Turtles".
Hawksbill, Leatherback and Loggerhead turtles are some of the other kinds. They are all in danger.
Every year thousands of olive Ridley turtles swim out of the sea towards the land. They came to lay their eggs in the sand on the beaches. They do this at night. And they all come at the same time! But something is terrible is happening. Turtles have difficult life. It is becoming more and more difficult. Some turtles are caught in fishermen's nets and die. When they do come to the shore, there is little space for them to lay their eggs. People have built their houses and roads close to the beaches. The beaches are not dark anymore. There are light everywhere which attract a lot of people. When turtles lay their eggs, these are stolen by people and sometimes they are broken. Dogs and jackals and other wild animals dig up the eggs for food. If this continues, soon there may not be many turtles left that will be very sad.
The Olive Ridley turtle grows up to three feet long. The female comes to the shore at night. She lays about 160 eggs at a time. The nesting season is from November to March. The baby turtles hatch after 50 days they are tiny about 2 inches long. The babies wait and listen till the sea is at its highest point. When they hear the sea, they scramble towards the waves. Their mothers wait for them in the sea.
So after reading this article try to save the turtles because they are very rare and we have to save them from destruction. Keenly think about it.
